Artist Statement:

In this series of paintings I experiment with making my own ink pigments from natural sources, and print-making with foraged pinecones, leaves, and flowers from Taylor Creek Park in Toronto. I was growing increasingly aware of the fact that acrylic paint and oil paint become waste as these materials are not biodegradable. I wanted to use pigment sourced from nature that would be biodegradable. My canvas is recycled paper, with bits of leaves and flowers. I made a blueberry ink (purple and blue colour) , an avocado pit ink (pink/blush colour), and a carbon black ink.
