Course Reserves

A comprehensive guide to using Leganto, our Course Reserves platform. Also included are policies for copyright and information for students.

Information for Students

Course Reserves (Leganto) is a collaborative web app to provide students with direct access to the course readings.

Reading Lists are built by your course instructor and embedded into Canvas. Reading lists can contain:

  • Library materials (books, eBooks, streaming media, links to databases, etc.)
  • Links to outside resources such as:
    • YouTube, Vimeo, or other streaming media platforms
    • Websites
    • Blogs
  • PDFs or other documents your instructor may want to upload

Finding Reading Lists

The reading list for your class is embedded directly into your course in Canvas.

However, once inside the Leganto software, it's easy to find other reading lists. Simply click Find Lists from the left hard menu, and you can search for any list you have permission to view.

Borrowing Policies for Print and Electronic Reserves

Print Reserves

Print Reserve books that are borrowed from the circulation desk are for in library use only and can be borrowed for two hours. If your instructor has placed a book on Print Reserves, the location will say "Available, Reserve - Ask at Circulation Desk". Please bring your OCAD U ID card to borrow materials. If an item is kept over the two hour limit without being renewed, fines of $1.00 per hour will begin to accrue. Due to high demand, materials on Print Reserve cannot be placed on hold or taken out of the library. See our borrowing policies or email circulation@ocadu.ca for more information.

Electronic Reserves

EBooks and other electronic materials can have various lending allowances. If you open an eBook that is an "Unlimited-user", there are no limitations on the length of time or number of users who can view it at once. Depending on the platform, usage information may appear different. Below are some examples:

ProQuest Ebook Central:

Scholars Portal:

If the eBook is a "Limited-user" title, it behaves more like a physical book in that users must wait until another user is done with the eBook before they can gain access.

Alternate Formats

Do you require course materials in accessible formats?

The OCAD U Library is committed to providing equal access to our collection, and we are proud to offer alternate formats service with a referral from Student Accessibility Services. You can contact an Accessibility Advisor at sas@ocadu.ca. We can work together to ensure any accessibility needs are addressed in a confidential and collaborative manner.

Please note that alternate formats cannot be created from instructor's personal copies, and scans for students would either need to be sourced from a student physical copy or a copy of a material that the library already owns. This will help prevent further delays with alternate formats requests. For more information, please contact newformats@ocadu.ca, or visit our Alternate Formats page.
