We would like to thank the Leddy Library at the University of Windsor and the College of Charleston Library for permission to reuse some of their content on this guide.
Required readings must comply with copyright allowances in order to be posted to Canvas. Typically, no more than 10-20% of a print work or one chapter of a book can be made available digitally. If you want to use more than the allowed percentage of a print work, you should request to have the book placed on reserve in the library or have copies ordered into the bookstore. This can be done through Leganto directly or by contacting reserves@ocadu.ca.
Please note that due to the high volume of requests, E-Reserves staff prioritize required readings, and are not required to fulfill supplemental or suggested student reading requests.
The OCAD U Library prioritizes students' access to accessible course readings delivered online through Canvas. Any readings posted into the “Files” section on Canvas without library staff support, cannot be guaranteed to meet current accessibility standards, nor appropriate copyright clearances.
Required readings for OCAD U courses must go through the library’s e-reserves workflow to ensure we are properly managing copyright clearances for requested materials. Bypassing e-reserves may result in copyright infringement and could become a liability for the individual faculty member.
For more information on copyright, review the resources below. If you have further questions about copyright at OCAD U, contact Chris Landry, Scholarly Communications & Copyright Librarian at clandry@ocadu.ca.
