Course Reserves

A comprehensive guide to using Leganto, our Course Reserves platform. Also included are policies for copyright and information for students.

How can I request readings for my class?

Course readings can be requested directly through your Canvas course, in the Course Reserves – Leganto tab.

Visit our research guide for further information.  We also offer demos and individual walkthroughs of the service.

When should my reading list be sent to the library for processing?

4-6 weeks before the start of a semester is recommended, but we will continue to process lists throughout the semester. We encourage you to submit your reading list as early as possible so we can ensure course readings are made available to your students in a timely manner. You can edit or add more readings after submitting or publishing the list.

How long will it take for a new item to be available once I’ve added it to a reading list?

Once the item has been added to the reading list, it will require a number of checks by library staff to see if copies require ordering. We can offer the following average turnarounds for new materials:

Print Book: 3 weeks from ordering.

Electronic Book: 24 hours from ordering.

Journal Article: one week from ordering.

If anything is required urgently, please contact us and we will do our best to help.

Can I upload or request PDFs of a book or journal?

Yes! We can scan materials from our collection in house, and other materials that we may not own. Generally, we can provide between 10-20% of a book, or one book chapter or one journal article that is no greater than 25% of the total text pagination. Copyright allowances will vary depending on the title, so check with us first if in doubt.

How to request PDFs of a print item in a reading list?

Step 1 -- Add an item to the reading list to specify the book title + chapter title (required) or journal title + journal article title (required), page numbers, publication info, edition, etc.

Step 2 – Add a tag: 1. Hover over the item and select Full Details. 2. Click the Item Actions tab. 3. Select the Digitization Request tag in the Add tags field.

You can also add the Print Book Reserves tag to have print books placed on Course Reserves at Circulation Desk in the Library or add the Purchase Request tag to request purchases for courses.

I want my students to have access to an entire book online. Is this possible?

It depends! While we strive to provide as much material online as possible, not all books are available in electronic format, and not all eBooks have unlimited access. Please contact us for copyright allowances for specific titles.

The library doesn’t have the books I need. Can I bring my own copies for my students?

Yes! If we don’t own a title that you need, we are more than happy to put your personal copy on Print Reserves in the library for your students to access for a short-term loan in the library. We can also investigate purchasing options for our collection.
