Talking Wellness

A project & exhibition by Pam Patterson's Art and Design Education (ADEL): Community class, in collaboration with OCAD U Health & Wellness Centre & the Library's Learning Zone, Fall 2018

OCADU students will be put into the field to teach with active support especially around strategies for coping with exceptional students. Imagine if all OCAD students were provided with free cabs to their placements to ensure student safety! Students who teach, as well as OCAD faculty, must have pedagogical support – perhaps even special teaching assistants to help us all realize our teaching and learning dreams! - Zen Huang

Artist Bio and Statement

My name is Zen Huang and I am a third-year DPXA student focusing on visualizing different energies and movements through abstract painting, installation, and video editing. For this project, I had a conversation with Tamara at health and Wellness regarding ways we as student teachers could balance attending to our students with special needs and giving the rest of the class full attention. These are questions of integration, ostracization and modifying expectations according to specific disabilities. I was interested in exploring how students with certain disabilities contribute to the pool of knowledge.
