Talking Wellness

A project & exhibition by Pam Patterson's Art and Design Education (ADEL): Community class, in collaboration with OCAD U Health & Wellness Centre & the Library's Learning Zone, Fall 2018

OCAD U will no longer have long wait times to be seen by a health care professional and walk-ins are more likely to happen! The health care services provided at OCAD U will be localized to each program to ensure maximum health and wellness. OCAD U will challenge the stigma around mental health and disabilities, therefore encouraging artists to take more risks and take negativity as a challenge. Peer groups will strongly develop and evolve! The power imbalance that exists between students and faculty will diminish, encouraging a stronger base of wellness for both students and faculty as well as space for more openness. - Rhys Castro

Artist Bio and Statement

My work is an exploration of Filipino immigrant/diaspora culture through painting and installation. Heath and wellness is the base of my practice because I deal with and explore issues pertaining to immigration and diaspora which, in a way, informs ones health and wellness. This project informed me of services that I was not aware that OCAD had, particularly the peer wellness education program. This project was very engaging through the interview with health and wellness staff. It also enabled a sense of openness and wellness that I thought was very valuable to myself and the OCAD U community.
