Research & Writing Support
Come and say hello at the library's reference desk located on the 2nd floor of the MCC 215 building at 113 McCaul Street.

Access to the library after 5pm and on Saturdays requires you to tap in using your OCAD U identification.  

The Library winter hours are as follows:  

  • Monday–Thursday: 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Friday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Sunday: Closed

As library hours change from fall, winter to summer, please make sure to visit the Dorothy H. Hoover Library website for the most up-to-date information.

  • Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI)
    Covers journal articles, exhibition reviews and news items from 1973 to the present.
  • Artstor
    Image database featuring design prototypes, materials, and documentation from major collections./span>
  • JSTOR
    OCAD U Library currently subscribes to fourteen JSTOR archival collections.
  • ScienceDirect
    Peer-reviewed articles on materials, sustainable design, ergonomics, and design engineering.

Did you know that the Dorothy H. Hoover Library (a.k.a. OCADU library) provides access to over 70,000 print books, exhibition catalogues, reference books and over 200,000 e-books? 

The library also provides access to:

  • Databases, periodicals and magazines
  • Special Collections which includes films, artist videos, rare books, artist books, zines, documentaries, illustrated children's books, periodicals
  • Archives which collects and preserves the institutions history, intellectual output and student life.  To visit the archives, email at archives@ocadu.ca to make an appointment.
  • Study rooms and access to the Library's Learning Zone (LLZ)
  • Printing in colour & black and white, all for free
  • Library technologies such as several sizes of flatbed scanners, and BookEye scanner
