Summer 2016 edition of the Dorothy H. Hoover Library newsletter

Staff Publications

Library Staff Author Wins GOLD!

In the Winter 2016 Library newsletter we announced Learning Zone Technician Lindsay Gibb's publication National Treasure: Nicolas Cage, where she muses over why Cage is so divisive, why the haters are wrong, and why he is one of the greatest actors alive. We thought you might be interested to know that it won Gold in the Popular Culture category of the Independent Publisher Book Awards. There are a lot of categories, so scroll down to category #65.

Congratulations Lindsay on the remarkable accomplishment!

Circulation News

Making it easier to access ALL our books

In April, library staff began a major re-organization of our print holdings: We are combining the ‘circulating’ and ‘reference’ collections, so that all our books on a given subject will be found in one place. This interfiling will increase the accessibility and browsability of the collection, and further encourage those serendipitous discoveries we love to make!

Reference books will continue to be library-use only (or one-week loans for faculty, staff, and graduate students) and will retain, for identification, the code ‘REF’ in their call numbers and a red dot on the label. When it’s finished, this redesign will have shifted most of the books in the library, so regular users will need to re-orient themselves.

Come visit YOUR library again and see how much easier it is to access ALL our books!

Ask: Chat with a Librarian

New this Summer!

Starting on Friday June 24th, Ask Chat with a Librarian will be introducing a new interface, although you will hardly even notice any difference!

The virtual reference portal will still offer the same seamless access to expert research assistance from qualified librarians and library staff, but will now be faster and more efficient for you to access the reference help you need from wherever you are!
