Currency
When evaluating your sources another key area to look for is currency, the date the information was published or last updated. Checking for currency is important because depending on your topic or research field, information might be outdated.
Questions to ask yourself:
- When was this information created or last edited?
- Can I find more up-to-date information?
- What time period is covered in this content?
Depending on your source type you should check for publication date if dealing with an article, book or webpage. If dealing with a website you want to locate the last updated date, usually found at the bottom of a page.
TIP Currency is important, but it doesn’t automatically make a source credible, it should be considered alongside authority, accuracy, and relevance.
