In 2019 204 items were uploaded to the repository including 94 conference items, 90 theses and MRPs, and 13 journal articles. Collections added included the entire 2018 Proceedings of the Relating Systems Thinking and Design (RSD7) Symposium. In addition to book chapters and reports, we also had a more unusual deposit: a deck of cards! The Dobble Debate card game is a product of a SSHRC-funded umbrella project that uses games, humour and imagination to promote discussion and education about dis- and differing abilities. From the abstract:
The initial analogue card game developed for this project is intended for use in learning situations with people who may have varying degrees of experience with differing abilities. It is intergenerational, adaptable to alternative gameplay and can be modified to be used by people with dis- and differing abilities. The game promotes, through its iterative and narrative methodology, understanding, cross-fertilization, knowledge mobility and community.
There were over 75,000 downloads of OCAD U creative and research items in 2019 including 9,000 in May alone. Research from all three faculties were added including Becoming music (Art), Design and evaluation of an audio game-inspired auditory map interface (Design), and Situ: Researching corporate diversity initiatives with game developers (Liberal Arts & Sciences),
March 2-6 is Open Education Week. Last year the Learning Zone hosted Guerrilla Education! A Very Hands-On Open Education Week Event. Faculty, librarians, and staff gathered to discuss how we can use collaboration and technology to remove barriers from education. "Open Education encompasses resources, tools and practices that are free of legal, financial, and technical barriers and can be fully used, shared and adapted in the digital environment. Open Education maximizes the power of the Internet to make education more affordable, accessible and effective" (SPARC). While not strictly OERs, Open Humanities Press provides access to a collection of open access scholarly texts with a focus on critical and cultural theory.
