OCAD U Library 2019 Winter: Staff Profiles

Meet... Liz Maraston!

Liz Maraston is our new Circulation Coordinator. We spoke to Liz about what she does in the Library and what books from the collection she loves.

Can you explain your role in the library?

As the Circulation Coordinator,  I am the person that supervises everything that goes on behind the circulation desk. I help patrons sign out books in the circulating collection, Interlibrary loans and Course Reserves. I am also responsible for acquiring new books for the library’s collection.

What brought you to library work?

I’ve always loved books and reading, so working in a library seemed like a logical place for me. I first came to the library at OCAD University to do my field placement when I was a student at Seneca College. Then, when I graduated from Seneca, I started working at the library as an intern and I’ve been here ever since.

You have read a lot of the books in the library collection. What are some of your favourite items we have?

It’s really difficult to pick a favourite (we have so many great books!), but these are my top three books in the collection:

Kindred / Octavia E. Butler.

Saga / Brian K. Vaughan, writer ; Fiona Staples, artist ; Fonografiks, lettering & design ; coordinator, Eric Stephenson.

Isadora Duncan : a graphic biography / written and illustrated by Sabrina Jones ; Paul Buhle, editor.

What are some of your interests outside of the library?

My previous career was working as a theatre technician, and I still work on productions from time to time. I also enjoy knitting and sewing garments for myself.
