OCAD U Library 2019 Fall: Staff Profiles

Lillian designed the new directional signs in the library

Library Staff Profile

Meet Lillian Chan, the library's Circulation Technician. We spoke to Lillian about what she does in the library and what books in the collection she loves.

Can you explain your role in the library?

I handle mainly circulation and access services, so signing out books, processing interlibrary loans, course reserves, and fines etc.

You studied at OCAD. Can you tell us about what you studied and your art practice?

At OCAD, I spent my first year in the design stream and the next three years in the art stream. So I have a little bit of experience with fabrication and design techniques, in addition to my core studies in classical painting, drawing, and printmaking. They came in handy when it came to creating some new signage and bookmarks for the library.

As for my current art practice, I focus mainly on figurative drawing and painting.

Can you tell us a bit about your work in libraries before joining OCADU?

My first library job was as a student monitor at OCADU Library, and I’ve stayed working in libraries ever since (mostly academic ones). I’ve worked mainly in circulation, reference and web development.

What are your favourite items in the library collection?
