E-Reserves

E-Reserves during COVID-19

Due to the current COVID-19 Crisis, some e-reserve services are being impacted. We are working to ensure access to digital resources is available and accessible to the OCADU community. 

  • Online collections are available 24/7 from Dorothy H. Hoover Library. 

  • Readings requests will be acquired and fulfilled as digital copies where available, Monday-Friday.

  • Digitization of print resources may take longer than usual due to the current pandemic related campus restrictions

  • All library e-reserves remain available via Canvas. However, library print reserves are not available as our facilities are closed. Faculty members, please email lillianchan@ocadu.ca to discuss any changes to your print reserves. Students are encouraged to check with their professors with questions about revised course readings

What We Do

OCAD U offers an electronic course reserves service (E-Reserves) that provides students with 24-hour access to copyright compliant course readings through Canvas at no cost. E-Reserves can list print reserve items at the library for the courses so students can locate and access course readings in one place.

Instructors can request course materials online through Canvas:

  • PDFs scanned from print material

  • Links to library-licensed electronic resources such as eBooks and journal articles

  • Web content

Benefits to Using E-Reserves:

  • Efficient digital delivery of course readings to students integrated with Canvas courses

  • Persistent links to articles or chapters within databases, ensuring uninterrupted access to readings both on and off-campus

  • Copyright Compliant Service.

  • Easily duplicate readings year-to-year

  • Tag your readings (e.g. Week 1, Required)

  • View usage statistics from students

3 Steps to Requesting E-Reserves

Activate the "Course Reserves" menu tab. This allows students to view the readings you’ve requested

Choose "Add reserve items" to enter citation information for each reading or to duplicate previously assigned readings.

 

We will process your requests and email you with any questions that arise.

Processing can take up to 4 weeks. You can select "Subscribe now" to get alerts about your requests.

Service Boundaries

Due to time limitations, we prioritize processing required readings.


Items must comply with copyright and our licensing agreements in order to be posted to Canvas. Typically, this means no more than 20% of a print work can be used. If the request is over 20% we may seek out an eBook or suggest placing the text on print reserve.
